Sir W. Meyer’s Speech.

Sir William Meyer rose to speak at 11.05 and his speech was listened to with great interest and much additional interest lay in the fact that he was presenting the last financial statement, he being due to retire in August next. During the conclusion of his remarks about revenue and expenditure, Imperial, his statement that revenue surplus amounted to two million three hundred thousand pounds was received with cheers and there were great cheers when the Finance Member announced that there was at present no necessity for adding to the fresh imposts imposed during the past two years and that the taxation would be kept on the existing level. There was however no question, he said, while war conditions continued of reduction of taxation.
