Certain correspondence has passed between the Secretary, Burma Provincial Congress Committee and the Government of Burma on the subject of interception in Rangoon by the Postmaster-General, Burma, of copies of “New India” and “The Hindu” published in Madras. The Secretary asked that a public notification be issued if there was anything seditious or of an improper nature rather than intercept papers without assigning any reasons. The Chief Secretary, Burma Government, has replied stating that the action taken was under the Local-Government orders and pointing out that the views of the Congress Committee had been noted. The Secretary, Burma Provincial Congress Committee, replied regretting the action of the Government in preventing the circulation of those papers in Burma which were circulated free throughout all other provinces under the Indian Government and suggesting that either announcement be made of the reason of the interception or the interception order be cancelled and all subscribers be allowed to have their newspapers as before.
