Another informal meeting was held yesterday evening [January 14, in Bombay] to further consider the feasibility of forming an Indian academy. Dr. Scott presided. His Holiness Jagadguru Shri Shankaracharya said since their last deliberations he had received many letters of sympathy from all parts of India. Mr. Montagu had written expressing his sympathy and Lord Willingdon had sent a letter thoroughly appreciating the scheme. Letters had also been received from Sir Ramakrishna Bhandarkar, Sir Subramaniya Iyer, Sir P. S. Sivaswamy Iyer, Mr. Haraprasad Shastri and many others. He knew that the ideal of French academy was a very high one but they should try gradually to work towards that end.
