Jan Sangh chief found dead

Mr. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, President of the Jan Sangh, was found dead on the railway track near the Moghulsarai Railway Station in U.P., in the early hours of this morning [February 11]. Mr. Ram Prakash, Deputy Chief Minister of U.P., who belongs to the Jan Sangh, has ordered an immediate inquiry. Mr. Upadhyaya was on his way to Patna from Lucknow to attend the party conference. He was reported to be travelling in a first class compartment. A cabinman found the body on the track a few furlongs from Moghulsarai Station and informed the Police. Within minutes of receipt of the news, a high ranking official of the U.P. Government flew to Moghulsarai from Lucknow for investigation. The body of Mr. Upadhyaya was flown to Delhi by an I.A.F. plane, which took off from the Babatpur aerodrome at 9 p.m. Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, M.P., Mr. Balraj Madhok, Mr. Ram Prakash, and Mr. Jagdish Chandra Mathur, Office Secretary of the Party, accompanied the body.
