From the Archives (October 26, 1918): Burma Co-operative Conference.

The first Urban Co-operative Conference met to-day [on October 25 in Rangoon]. There was a large attendance. Speeches were made by Mr. Graham, Commissioner, Pegu Division, Mr. Clayton, Registrar, Co-operative Societies, Joint Registrar and others. Points emphasised were the difficulties and opportunities of co-operative work in towns, the finance of the societies, condition on which loans were advanced to traders and craftsmen. The Conference meets again to-morrow to receive and consider sub-committee’s report and recommendations. The meetings were held at the Rangoon College and Mr. Graham indicated hopeful connection between educated Burmans of the future and all movements for the development and prosperity of the province.
