From the Archives (July 5, 1918): Alleged Concealment of Enemy Property.

The District Magistrate to-day [July 4, Rangoon] passed orders with reference to the application made by defence counsel in the case against Rathbi charged under the Enemy Registration Act, 1917, with concealing enemy assets. The case was closed on Saturday. An application was made yesterday to call witnesses from Calcutta. The order said that the application was very belated. The circumstances of the case, however, were exceptional and the case one of great importance involving great interest. The Court was prepared to adjourn and summon Calcutta witnesses Messrs. Lince and Blandy, provided the expenses of the witnesses Rs. 600 were deposited. An adjournment was granted till Tuesday [July 9] provisionally. The witnesses will only be examined provided their attendance was secured within a reasonable time. Otherwise the Court will pass orders without waiting. Witnesses are Mr. Jean Lince, 6 Police Street and Mr. Blandy Lane, Custodian, Enemy Property. Rs. 600 was paid in.
