The rumoured appointment of Mr. T.C. Kurup, announced in last night’s’ ‘The Hindu’, to the vacancy in the Law College, will, if true, cause a feeling of great surprise and disappointment in the minds of all interested in the welfare of the College. The successor to Mr. Paul Appaswamy must be an eminent and experienced man, able to win the respect of numerous graduates who have to listen to his lectures. It is surprising that the Government should think fit to appoint a comparatively young and inexperienced barrister for the purpose. It is all the more surprising when the Government is aware that there is one among the members of the staff who is well-fitted by exceptionally long experience, sound legal knowledge and lecturing ability to be appointed for the place, as will be testified to by generations of past students who have gone out from the college into the legal profession. It is hoped that the Government will after all do what is right and just and earn the gratitude of all interested in legal education.
