The District Magistrate, Allahabad, has just concluded the enquiry in a case in which one Hasmatullah was called upon to show cause why security for good behaviour for one year should not be taken from him as he was reported to have disseminated feelings of enmity between different classes of His Majesty’s subjects. The prosecution alleged that Hasmatullah had a paper written in Urdu, the contents of which were to the effect that on the 11th August last there was a meeting in Munshi Ram Prashad’s garden, at which speeches were delivered by Babu Kamtanath Bhargava, the Hon’ble Pundit Madan Mohan Malaviya and one Benarsi Babaji. Speeches, it was stated in the paper, were to the effect that Mahomedans should be prevented from killing cows, Hindus should regard cows as their mother because cows gave them milk, that the Hindus should even sacrifice their life and property to protect cows and Mahomedans should be driven away from here.
