Mr. V. Chakkarai Hon. Secretary, the Madras District Congress Council, writes :- Since the sentence passed on Mahatma Gandhi, the public of Madras, though feeling poignant grief at the incarceration of their sainted chief, have longed for an opportunity to give an eloquent expression to their love to him and devotion to the motherland. “Khaddar” was the last message of Mahatmaji; symbol as it is of the creed of non-violence and of unbending determination to achieve the redress of the wrongs done to the Punjab, the Khilafat, and obtain Swaraj. The Mahajana Sabha and the Madras Congress Council are providing the public on Wednesday the 5th April, an opportunity to demonstrate the intensity of their convictions, and their obedience to follow the last advice of our Chief. That he is to-day mightier than he has been in the past, must be shown to the world, and what finer proof can we give it this than to salute him from outside the prison where he lives and prays for our national Salvation and what more fitting salution than to take the khaddar pledge and remain true to it, in thought, word and deed? Attend the meeting in your thousands and tens of thousands.
