From the Archives (April 23): P.L.-480 funds for electricity schemes

The possibility of securing PL-480 funds for financing the electricity co-operatives projects in the country are being examined, it was stated here [Bangalore] to-day [April 23]. Mysore is one of the States in India where the electricity cooperatives project is to be undertaken on a pilot project basis. The area selected in the State is the Hukkeri Taluk of the Belgaum district. A co-operative is about to be formed and registered for the purpose of handling the distribution of electricity secured by the State Electricity Board. The Board would hand over the distribution and other allied aspects of that service to the co-operative as a measure of decentralisation of functions and to make the rural areas take more and more to electricity. The whole project in its application to Mysore is expected to cost about Rs. 1.3 crores. The finance for the project is among the important issues which are now under examination before the co-operatives were registered.
