Bombay Food Exhibition.

The most successful opening ceremony in connection with the Bombay food exhibition and fancy fair was performed this afternoon [November 23] by H.E. the Governor of Bombay who with Lady Willingdon attended in state was received at the entrance to the town hall by a guard of honour of blue jackets and conducted to the dais in the hall in the presence of a dense assembly of all classes of the population of the city. The Governor in declaring the exhibition open said that he felt pride in standing before them, pride on the Presidency and pride of a personal kind for the first idea of starting the scheme had originated with Lady Willingdon and pride in the success of exhibition which had been brought about by the goodwill and cordial co-operation of British Indian races of all classes. Dealing with the objects of exhibition he said they wished to show to house-holders how many necessities of life could be purchased in India and also to give various industrial firms an opportunity of displaying their wares in enlarging their markets. His Excellency then alluded to the second purpose of the exhibition, namely, to raise money for “Our Day” fund and expressed his thanks to various workers who by voluntary service had made the exhibition possible and in conclusion claimed that the citizens of Bombay could claim to have been pioneers of several great undertakings during the past few years which had been crowned with success. After Sir Thomas Holland who with the other members of the Industrial Commission and several native chiefs were present had thanked His Excellency for declaring the exhibition open. Their Excellencies went round the various stalls, shows, etc., spending about a couple of hours in the buildings and grounds which at night were brilliantly illuminated.
