Awakening of Moosads.

With the awakening of the other communities in Malabar, the Moosads, a section of the Malabar high castes, have also been awakened, and they are now considering the ways and means for their social, moral and political elevation. A conference of Moosads was held at Karippot, South Malabar, on Saturday and Sunday last [Dec. 1 & 2] under the presidency of that well-known jenmi Kuruvayoor Moopil Narayana Moosad. The Conference was well-attended and besides the members of the community, there were present a large number of visitors, being the friends, well-wishers and sympathisers of the community. As soon as the conference assembled, Mr. Karippot Narayanan Moosad, the Chairman of the Reception Committee, welcomed the delegates, who had come in from the different parts of the district, in an interesting and instructive speech, in the course of which he said that their success in life depended mainly on co-operation and that every one of them should co-operate if they were to achieve their desired object. He also urged that the Brahamaswoms owned by the members of the community should be entrusted for better management to the committee appointed for the purpose. The President in the course of his speech urged that every one of them should do whatever that lay in his power to secure the moral, social and political elevation of the community. He thought that their association, the Bhargaviya Brahma Samajam, would be able to accomplish much in that direction if the members were to unite and work wholeheartedly.
