The ‘Englishman’ publishes a remarkable taxi-cab Dacoity which has been related to the police by a European gentleman connected with a local jute mill. According to his story it appears that while he was proceeding in a taxi through the maidan on the way to Budge Budge at about 9 on Sunday night, two Europeans boarded the car. Both were armed with revolvers and one of them after covering the complainant with his revolver proceeded to ransack his pocket and took Rs. 160. The other pointed his revolver to the taxi driver directing him not to stop the car. The driver managed to drive the car towards Chowringhee where he raised an alarm. A constable arrived and it is said arrested the two mysterious Europeans. Both of them were armed, one being a clerk in the C.I.D. Police. They deny the charge and said that they were out on a shooting excursion. Further enquiry is proceeding.
