Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan was in Kochi to promote his upcoming movie Vishwaroopam-2.
Stating that the time has come for the country to unite against the growing intolerance, Mr. Haasan expressed doubts on whether he could have made a political movie like "Hey Ram" today.
“I am also doubtful whether noted writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair could have made the movie Nirmalyam today,” he said.
Urging Keralites to start a freedom struggle against those trying to muzzle their voices, Mr. Haasan said that “we have been very complacent about the independence that we got, but we have not been responsible. The whole nation has become intolerant. And I am shocked that Kerala was also toeing the line,” he said in an indirect reference to the recent attacks against freedom of expression enjoyed by writers and artists.
