Salwan Public School, Gurgaon

The Sa Ma Pa Aalap Festival was celebrated in Salwan Public School, Gurgaon recently. Held under the aegis of the Sopori Academy of Music and Performing Arts in collaboration with the Music Faculty of Salwan, the programme commenced with the welcome address and the lighting of the auspicious lamp by the legendary Santoor maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori and Ustad Sayeed Zafar Khan.

This programme is part of a movement to familiarise today’s youngsters with the different gharanas, formats and styles of Indian Classical and traditional music dance as well as other technicalities related to our cultural heritage. The programme was initiated by Pandit Bhajan Sapori, who in his address, encouraged students to develop a taste for classical music. It featured Ustad Sayeed Zafar Khan on the sitar accompanied by Ustad Rashid Zafar Khan on the tabla and Ustad Sohail Khan on the tanpura.
