Bringing alive the magic of Pushkar

The annual Pushkar fair is not only magical but also fascinating with the many aspects it covers.


The atmosphere at the fair is one of mystery, romance and fantasy making it an unforgetable experience.

The Pushkar Fair in Rajasthan is one of the most celebrated tourism fairs in India and certainly the most colourful of them all! The annual religious and cattle fair at the little township of Pushkar attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world. The fair held during the Kartik Poornima brings alive this town with a riot of colours and a burst of vibrancy.

The fair takes place in the month of Kartika (October –Novenmber) beginning on Asthmi the eighth day of the lunar calendar and goes on till the full moon of poornima. The mela this year was held from October 25 to November 2.

The week long extravaganza featured enthralling colourful folk recitals, rural sports, folk music, bhajan sandhya, an arts and craft bazaar, a cattle fair, Shilpgram and many sporting events.


The fair attracts not only cattle rearers but also camels and horses for trading. Camel and horse races are a major attraction. Wrestling, satolia, football, tug-o-war, modelling of bridal wear, competitions for most impressive moustaches, the matka race and many other delightful events attract the tourist.

The rural setting, religious celebrations and the natural ambience make it a never-to-miss event. The cool weather, the little lanes, the people, the bazaar, the aroma of incense sticks, kaleidoscope of shops, the smiling faces all add up to make the atmosphere at the fair unique and pleasant.

The romance and fantasy of the place makes you forget time and space. The magic and charm of this picturesque oasis on the edge of the Thar continues to fascinate.
