By striking the first shot, he conquered all hearts!



Sure shot: Resul Pookutty

The Devamatha CMI Public School, Thrissur, reverberated with the beats of ‘Jai Ho’ as Oscar award winner Resul Pookutty arrived at the campus recently to launch its Jeevatham charity programme and also the school’s tennis academy. Apart from singing the song from the movie Slumdog Millionaire, the students danced to its tune, thus giving him a warm reception.

First shot

The new ventures was launched as part of the school’s 15th anniversary celebrations. The charity programme is aimed at providing medical aid to cancer-affected children and to ensure that financial constraints do not hamper children in their pursuit of excellence in art and culture. The students donated Rs 5 lakh for the venture.

In his speech, Mr Pookutty spoke of the pivotal role that teachers played in creating awareness among children about glaring inequalities in society. He cited the example of the ‘A letter to the teacher’ that revolutionized the educational system in Europe.

He enthralled tennis enthusiasts of the campus by striking the first shot, to formally inaugurate the tennis academy. Fr. George Pius Ukken, Provincial honoured the Oscar awardee by draping him with a ‘Ponnada’. Mr Pookutty also unveiled the logo of the Jeevatham project. School principal, Fr Shaju Edamana, too spoke on the occasion.
