Coimbatore’s Vidhya Niketan School stood second and, St. Paul’s Higher Secondary School, from Huzurnagar in Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh came in third. K. Vinod Reddy and B. Venumadhav from St. Paul’s had also tried their luck last year. Both of them hail from an agricultural background.

A common trait among the winners this year is that they never gave up.

The quiz held at the Gedee Auditorium in Coimbatore saw a huge turnout of almost 1000 students, parents and teachers. Winners among the audience got a big bag of goodies from the generous sponsors.

D. Tharunya and Arnav Chandrasekhar from Vidhya Niketan had a terrific start after coming first in the semi finals. But a couple of rounds later, Marygiri was way ahead. Quiz master V. V. Ramanan’s eclectic mix had music, videos and colourful imagery. The Headlines round had datelines and contestants had to guess what the headline of that day was. For example, “Vishakhapatnam, July 27, 2009”. The answer: Battleship Arihant launched.

The winners received trophies and cash prizes from chief guest Ravi Sam, chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry, Coimbatore zone.

The national sponsors were S&M Kids Wear, Kalasalingam University, Black Thunder, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank, Gold Winner, Hatsun Agro, Vizag Steel, Lotte Caramilk, Crocs Shoes, Firefox bicycles, Brittanica Encyclopedia, Penguin Books, Cherry Blossom, Reynolds and Dabur Real and, iAds and Events. iAds and Events were also the event managers. The Coimbatore regional sponsors of the event were Shri Kannan Department Store, Hotel Rathna Regent, Savithri Photo House, Banaanaa Slice, Vama Oil, Milka Wonder Milka, C.B. R. Masala, Sri Krishna Sweets, Avathar Jewellers, Phoenix Stoves, Hindustan Petroleum, Zimson watches, Cue and ARC Aqua Pura water.
