Operation: Green

SANA SYED

The paintings not only expressed their thoughts on the warming up of the globe, but also the remedies that could be taken up.

SAYING IT WITH PAINT: At the art competition.

The issue of global warming is a concern across the world. With energy conservation seen as one of the remedial measures, the Hyderabad Unplug event was envisaged. If the actors, artistes and sportspersons got together to promote a “no electricity” hour, can children be far behind?

Valuable

So at the Hyderabad Unplug and WWF-India initiative in association with The Hindu Young World, children from various localities made their contribution by sparing a Sunday afternoon for expressing their views on the issue through paint and brush.

Enthusiastic kids not only painted the various elements of global warming but also brought out the remedial measures that can be taken to check this growing menace. The competition was held in apartment blocks across the city.

Ashna of Std. III knows well about global warming, thanks to her school books.

She says, “The factories emit smoke and hot gases. So the temperature rises and snow also melts”. Bhavna, another kid of almost the same age, has another aspect to pinpoint. She painted deforestation and explained, “If we plant more trees then the temperature of earth will not rise so rapidly”.

Navya, a Std. VI student, not only meticulously delineated the causes and effect of global warming through her painting but had many things to say, “We should not waste electricity and try to conserve energy in all possible ways”. Point taken, one would say and that the event sure struck the right chord, in creating awareness about environmental concerns.
