Come summer: No shade!

It was the last day of school and we were walking home. We were looking forward to playing in the the shade of the many big trees around our apartment. Instead, we were shocked to find that the harsh, scorching rays of the sun on our face. We looked up to find the trees were devoid of branches. We saw a man chopping the trees. We talked to him and tried to stop him. We gathered a few elders but we could not stop him.

Earlier we used to wake up every morning to the chirping of birds of which the cuckoo was one. These trees were home to parrots, pigeons and squirrels.

Today these homeless birds cannot find trees to build their nest and are moving into our homes to build their nests.

Why is it so difficult to understand how important it is for us to take care of trees in our neighbourhood?
