Spelling very well

They spelled their way to win great prizes.

Vishnu G.R., a Malayalam medium student of Government Boys High School, Kottarakkara, has been selected from Kollam to participate in the Kerala State Level Championship of the Marrs International Spelling Bee competition to be held in April at Ernakulam. He is one among the 30 winners selected from Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam to take part in the State championship following a district-level competition held in the two cities recently. About 950 students from various Gov ernment and private schools took part in the event held in various categories. The students were divided according to their age and class.

The Marrs International Spelling Bee is one of the first spelling competitions held in Asia for school children based on Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary. The objective of the competition is to enhance the spelling and literary skills of children by encouraging them to explore and improve their English language, vocabulary, communication and comprehension skills. The state-level competition will be held on April 12 and 13 at the Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalayam, Kakkanad, Kochi. The national level champion of the competition in each category receives a gold coin in addition to a trophy, certificate and other gifts.
