Members of the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) community held a protest in New Delhi, demanding equality and an end to the ‘homophobic’ policies of the central government. The protesters raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government’s 'apathy' towards the poor and the working class and demanded repeal of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which criminalises same-sex relationships. Protesters said they have the right to be treated as normal citizens. The protest comes just days after a BJP leader said homosexuality was a ‘genetic disorder’.
