Narendra Modi inaugurates Sardar Sarovar Dam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17 reached Kevadia and inaugurated the Sardar Sarovar Dam on river Narmada, at an event coinciding with his 67th birthday. Mr. Modi performed Narmada aarti and offered prayers at the dam site ahead of the inauguration.

The foundation stone of the dam was laid on April 5, 1961 by the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Mr. Modi took to Twitter on Saturday, saying, “Tomorrow Sardar Sarovar Dam will be dedicated to the nation. This project will benefit lakhs of farmers and help fulfil people's aspirations.”
