A 26-year-old woman jumped off Anna Flyover and ended her life on Wednesday evening over what is believed to be a troubled love affair. In recent months, the city has witnessed similar suicides by youngsters battling personal problems.
The woman, identified as Anjali Das, hailed from Kolkata, and was, until recently, employed at a beauty parlour. She was seen on Anna Flyover around 4 p.m., pacing up and down and talking on her phone.
“A traffic policeman standing below even shouted at the top of his voice asking her not to stand on the flyover,” said a police officer attached to the Teynampet station. Seconds later, she climbed over the railing and jumped down. She died instantly. A youngster, believed to be close to the woman, tried to revive her. Later, he accompanied the body to hospital.
