Eighteen months after quashing a disproportionate assets (DA) case against BSP chief Mayawati, the Supreme Court on Friday asked why the CBI had not filed a fresh FIR in the case.
A three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice P. Sathasivam issued notice and sought response from the former U.P. Chief Minister and the agency within four weeks. “We expected that CBI should have got proper advice and acted on that basis,” the Bench said, indirectly referring to the 2012 verdict on the DA case, which left open the option for a fresh FIR. — PTI
