Dhaka: One person was killed and many were injured on Wednesday as clashes between students and police on campuses spread across Bangladesh. Clashes erupted over a petty dispute between some soldiers and students at the Dhaka University two days ago, prompting the military-backed government to declare an indefinite curfew in the capital and five other cities.

The government ordered closure of all universities and colleges in Dhaka, Chittagong, Khulna, Barisal, Rajshahi and Sylhet and asked the students to leave the dormitories by 8 p.m. One person was killed and 30 students were injured in a clash in the Rajshahi University, where students allegedly vandalised the administrative building and several faculties, demanding the withdrawal of the police from the campus, reports reaching here said. — PTI
