The Vice-Presidential poll, if necessary, will be held on August 7. The notification will be issued on July 6, the Election Commission announced on Tuesday.

The term of the incumbent, Mohammed Hamid Ansari, ends on August 10. Mr. Ansari is the 12{+t}{+h}Vice-President.

The poll will be held between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on August 7 and counting of votes will be taken up the same day at 6 p.m. The last day for filing nomination is July 20 and on July 21 the papers will be scrutinised. July 23 is the last date for withdrawal of nomination.

The Vice-President is elected by the electoral college, consisting of members of both Houses of Parliament in accordance with the system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote.

The electoral college consists of 790 MPs — 233 Rajya Sabha members (plus 12 nominated MPs) and 543 Lok Sabha members plus two nominated MPs.
