The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) summoned the three suspects in the case of rape and murder of a girl in Ujire last year and recorded their statements. The suspects — Dhiraj Jain, Mallik Jain and Uday Jain — were summoned following widespread indignation and protests across the State over the incident. There was also a demand to entrust the case to the CBI. Several organisations took out a protest march in Bangalore on Monday and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister. The CID officials who are investigating the case summoned the suspects and recorded their statements to ascertain their whereabouts at the time of the incident.

The officials are corroborating their statements with the mobile tower location record of their phones to ascertain the facts. Though the girl’s parents filed a complaint against three suspects on January 10, 2013, the officials had not taken up investigation.

Director-General of Police (CID), Bipin Gopalkrishna, confirmed that the suspects were summoned to record their statementsbut refused to say more.
