Two persons were killed and four others injured in a fire that broke out in a fire-cracker factory in the State's South 24 Parganas district on Sunday.

Jagannath Haldar and Nabin Mondal were killed when the fire broke out in the factory in the Raidighi police thana area. Four other persons inside the factory premises were injured in the incident, said L. M. Meena, the district's Superintendent of Police.

These people were making firecrackers inside the premises of the factory when there was an explosion and the building caught on fire. Jagannath Haldar, one of the persons killed, is the owner of the factory, police officials said.

The factory was a licensed concern, but the licence issued to it had expired. Jagannath Haldar had applied for a renewal of the licence, but it had not come through as yet, they added.

Barely two weeks ago, two persons were killed in a similar explosion at a firecracker godown in the northern parts of Kolkata.
