Party names five candidates
The TRS on Sunday named candidates for five seats and announced withdrawal from contest in Nagarkurnool in the coming by-elections in Telangana while the BJP has also declared its intentions to enter the fray but deferred a decision till Tuesday.
Incidentally, the TRS and BJP are constituents of Telangana joint action committee (JAC) which had all along maintained that it will work for the victory of leaders who resigned for the cause of separate Telangana. Both the parties participated in programmes organised by JAC for the last two years. The JAC leaders were also present in the ‘Telangana poru yatra' of State BJP president G. Kishan Reddy last week.
The candidates of TRS are: Kollapur – Jupally Krishna Rao, Station Ghanpur – T. Rajaiah, Adilabad – Jogu Ramanna, Kamareddy – Gampa Goverdhan and Mahabubnagar – Syed Ibrahim. Barring Mr. Ibrahim, the rest were MLAs of Congress and Telugu Desam who resigned from their respective parties and the Assembly, paving the way for elections. The TRS has retained Mr. Ibrahim in Mahabubnagar where he lost last time by 5,000 votes to an independent N. Rajeshwar Reddy whose death has caused the by-election. At Nagarkurnool in the same district, the party decided to support the candidature of Nagam Janardhan Reddy who also resigned from Telugu Desam and Assembly, but unlike others did not join the TRS.
The names were released by the election committee of TRS headed by ex-Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy. He told media persons that they were finalised on Saturday night after two days of consultations by party president K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Senior BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya told reporters separately that the party was set to enter the fray in all the six seats in Telangana and at Kovur in Nellore.
