Officials at the 25th National inter-zone junior athletics championship here were in a bind when the under-20 boys’ shot put winner went missing soon after the event when he was called for a dope test.

“His team officials say that his relative is very serious back home, so he had to rush back,” said M. Velayudhan Kutty, the Kerala State Athletics Association Secretary, on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, the organisers have received a letter from the runner-up of the event that he should be given the gold.

“Since the athlete is missing, it amounts to a doping violation,” said Kutty. “But we are yet to take a decision on this matter. We plan to discuss it with NADA. ” – Special Correspondent
