HYDERABAD: Wellington School of Cricket recorded a 64-run win over St. John's Cricket Coaching Foundation in a two-day match to take the Naresh Sharma Cricket Series for Friendship Cup played between the visiting New Zealand under-16 team and the local teams here.

The visitors won the series 2-1.

In the last match of the series, Wellington scored 287 in 90 overs and St. John's folded up for 223.

Special prizes were given to Ryan White of Wellington School (best batsman), off-spinner Akhil Kosaraju of St. John's (best bowler) and Luke Murray of Wellington School (best fielder).

Former New Zealand international Gavin Larsen, who was the co-coach of the Wellington School, thanked St. John's for successfully organising the matches for his team in the City and also Mr. Naresh Sharma for donating the Cup.

Former Test cricketer S. L. Venkatapathi Raju gave away the prizes.

The scores: Wellington School of Cricket 287 in 90 overs (Luke Murray 32, Sam Reegan 55 , Brett Johnson 66 , Henry Walsh 30, Vinay Rao six for 70) bt St. John's 223 all out in 75 overs (K. S. K. Chaitanya 71 , Sai Anurag 55 , Lohith 60 , Kieron Buttler three for 36, Henry Walsh four for 39) .

Sports Coaching Foundation (Green) won the under-14 category title defeating Legends Association Cricket Academy by 14 runs in the final of the 11 {+t} {+h} Boston Cup floodlit cricket tournament at SCF Grounds here.

The scores: SCF 63 for three bt Legends Academy 49 for seven (Wajid three for 11) .

Footballer dead

Syed Yousuf Kamal Baig, who represented the State in the Senior nationals and played for State Bank of Hyderabad in the local league, passed away here on Saturday.

He was 75.

Kamal Baig, a true enthusiast of the sport, was seen at the summer coaching camp in Mallepally even in the morning. He collapsed after he went home and died of cardiac arrest.

Former national players Aleem Khan, G. Phalguna and officials of Hyderabad Sporting, of which he was the secretary, attended the last rites.
