Karachi: Misbah-ul-Haq plugged the ‘power of positive thinking’ line in the post match press conference after Pakistan defeated India by eight wickets here on Wednesday night.
“We lost two matches earlier against India and Sri Lanka and any squad would have got into a negative frame of mind in such situations. So, in the team meeting and in the huddle before the game, I kept telling the players, ‘be positive in whatever you do, be it batting, bowling or fielding’,” said Pakistan’s stand-in skipper who won his first match as captain.
Misbah revealed that the team had changed its initial strategy of keeping wickets in hand before going for the runs, which was practised in earlier matches.
“In Dhaka and even against Sri Lanka here, we thought of preserving wickets before going for the runs. It didn’t work against the Sri Lankans as we kept losing wickets. So here I told our young openers Salman Butt and Nasir Jamshed to play their natural game and they are good stroke makers and batted well. Younis too played an outstanding innings and he has always been a match-winner,” Misbah said.
On Shoaib Malik, Misbah said: “He is the captain and once he recovers from his dehydration and is fit, he will automatically come into the team as the captain. He has scored a lot of runs also for us and there is no doubt about his spot in the team.”
