Kolkata Knight Riders coach Trevor Bayliss said a good environment in the team will help it maintain the momentum that took the side to the height of success last season.

“It is a good thing to start as the defending champion. We now need to play some good cricket as the opponents are going to come hard against us. What we need is a good environment in the team,” Bayliss said after the team’s practice for the new season on Thursday.

The Australian coach said that the team will be missing former Pakistani pacer Wasim Akram, who worked with the team as the bowling coach.

“Akram will be missed. But he is also responsible for his family, which comes first. Brett (Lee) has been with team for quite some time and we hope he will be able to make up for Akram’s absence in the team,” Bayliss said.

When asked about the absence of the some of the international stars in the team practice, Bayliss said “every player is playing top level cricket and it would not be difficult for them to come and adjust to the squad.”

About the embargo that disallows the Sri Lankan player Sachithra Senanayake to play in Chennai, Bayliss said one has to follow the guideline if there is one in place.

“He won’t play if he can’t play. We will have to follow the guidelines. We have sufficient foreigners in the squad,” Bayliss said.
