Kumar Sangakkara brings intensity to his joy. On the eve of the match against Rajasthan Royals, the Deccan Chargers skipper took a realistic view of the situation and the demands on his team.
“We have faltered a bit but we have a very good side. The boys can fight.
“It is hard to have special strategies for different players but we try and set the field and challenge the batsman to make mistakes. All international teams do it. We have the bowling strength,” he said.
Insisting his team had the right balance, Sangakkara added, “Maybe we don't have the big names but we have some great local talent. The pressure to win will be there but it will be nice to get into rhythm here.”
Sangakkara said the competition was getting tougher. “The players are learning quite a lot about the conditions and the pitches. There is a lot for the bowlers.”
On the legality of the switch-hit shot, Sangakkara observed, “It is an exceptional skill. Players do come up with new things.”
