Vizag Colts regains The Hindu Trophy

Vizag Colts regained The Hindu Trophy after several years, beating former winner Visakhapatnam Port Sports Council by 46 runs in the final of 20th edition of the annual prize money tournament at the Port stadium here on Saturday.

The Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association organised the tournament.

Colts scored 222 for nine and VPSC struggled in its chase after its in-form opening pair of H. Vatekar and V. Abraham did not click.

Colts pressed home the advantage and left-arm spinner Ch. Sneha Kishore bowled well to claim four for 12, which earned him the Man-of-the-Match award. He was well supported by N.J.S.R. Prasad and Ch. Yellaji.

Earlier V. Trinadh continued with his good form scoring 80 (4x4) for Colts. L. Sravan KJmar (41, 5x4) and K. Harikrishna (34, 4x4, 1x6) came up with quick knocks. H. Vatekar and P. Jaykumar bowled well.

Second title

This was Vizag Colts’ second title in the 20-year-old tournament. It received a cash award of Rs.10,000 along with the silver rolling trophy. VPSC received Rs.5,000.

V. Abraham with three centuries, was awarded the Sportstar Player of the Tournament award.

The following received special prizes: V. Trinadh (best batsman); Ch. Sneha Kishore (best bowler) and H. Vatekar (best all-rounder).

B. Tejaswi of M.F. Khan C.C. was given the promising youngster award. Abraham and Trinadh also received the Man-of-the-Match awards for the semifinal matches.

Deputy Chairman of Visakhapatnam Port Trust G.V.L. Satyakumar gave away the trophy.

The scores: Vizag Colts 222 for nine in 50 overs (V. Trinadh 80, L. Sravan Kumar 41, K. Harikrishna 34, H. Vatekar four for 47, P. Jaykumar three for 34) bt Visakhapatnam Port Sports Council 176 in 44 overs (K.N.V. Krishnamohan 35, Ch. Sneha Kishore four for 12). Man-of-the-Match: Sneha Kishore.
