VISAKHAPATNAM: Koneru Humpy will make the first move against J. Deepan Chakravarthy in the eight-game Rs. 1.5 lakhs prize money Vizag Challenger Trophy chess tournament between the two Grandmasters at the VUDA Children's Theatre here on Friday. Both players looked confident at a press conference on Thursday.
The draw was held at the players' meeting earlier.
At the meeting, organised by Chief Arbiter V. Balakrishna Rao and organising secretary of AP Chess Association K.V.V. Sarma, the two agreed to follow a few rules, like playing a minimum of 20 moves each before agreeing for a draw.
In case of a tie at the end of eighth round, the players would play two rounds of rapid chess (of 25 minutes each) and if the tie continued, a two-game blitz (of five minutes duration) will be held. One game will be played every day, starting at 2 p.m.
MAYTAS (Satyam Group) is the main sponsor, while the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant and the Sukhibhava real estate firms are the co-sponsors.
The games will be covered live on www.vizagchess.com.
Humpy and Deepan appreciated the organisers, the East Coast Chess Academy, for holding this tournament.
