KOZHIKODE: Just when it looked almost certain that Viva Kerala would score its second upset in as many games in the ONGC I-League, defending champion Churchill Brothers found a face-saving equaliser at the Corporation Stadium here on Thursday.

The injury-time strike by substitute Vimal Pariyar helped the Goans draw the game 1-1.

The home team, just three days after stunning former champion Dempo SC, may feel dejected, having led from the 36th minute onwards through P. Rahul's goal. But it was more than a creditable result for a side that has had only one goal for most of the season — to avoid relegation.

Viva now has 19 points from 16 games and is placed ninth in the 14-team league while Churchill is in the third position with 26 points. — Principal Correspondent
