Vishnu Vardhan did his confidence a world of good as he fought his way past sixth-seeded V.M. Ranjeet in the first round of the $10,000 ITF men’s Futures tennis tournament here on Tuesday.
The 26-year-old Hyderabad lad, who trains under C.V. Nagaraj, was quite shaky against former National champion Ranjeet, who had beaten him in Nigeria last month.
Top-seeded Yuki Bhambri was a class act as he warmed up for tougher challenges ahead with a smooth win over Shonigmatjon Shofayziyev of Uzbekistan. The 21-year-old Delhi lad was sharp with his game and stroked with imagination and efficiency.
