CHENNAI: Finalists were identified in all categories in the National junior squash championship on Monday.

While the Maharashta duo of Vikram Malhotra and Aditya Jagtap set up a title clash in the U-19 category, Dipika Pallikal and Rajasthan’s Surbhi Misra zipped through to the final in the Girls section.

Surbhi caused a minor ripple when she undid higher ranked V. Anwesha Reddy in straight games in the semifinal. She moved well — way better than the sluggish Anwesha — and covered the court to good effect, if without grace.

Abhishek Pradhan and Ravi Dixit played out a marathon in the U-17 class. The players traded games, twice over, and then looked to the decider to break the deadlock.

Ravi hurried to a 7-2 lead and had three matchballs at 10-7, before Abhishek woke from his slumber and pounded out a series of winners that took him to safety. He nailed the final game 13-11.

Another lad who had exhibited creditable gumption earlier on finally ran out of luck. Sandeep Ramachandran went down to second seed Raghav Mehrotra in five games in the U-13 category. Raghav will play the top seed, Delhi’s Kush Kumar, in the final.
