BANGALORE: Vijaya Bank wrested the ‘A’ division basketball league title from Madras Engineering Group & Centre after two years. The former champion won 70-53 after enjoying a 30-25 lead at the halfway stage at the Sree Kanteerava indoor stadium here on Monday evening.

Earlier in the day, Southern Blues weathered a strong resurgence from National Games Village BC 42-36 to emerge the ‘C’ division league champion and lift the S. Rangarajan Memorial Trophy. The two teams will now figure in the ‘B’ division in the coming season.

Beagles and BEML (Mysore) were relegated to the ‘B’ division for the next season, while Ambedkar BC and Corps of Military Police (CMP) were promoted to ‘A’ division.

Mr. Goolihatti D. Shekar, Minister for Youth Services, Govt. of Karnataka, was the chief guest and distributed the trophies.

The scores: Final: ‘A’ Division: Vijaya Bank 70 (Murli Mohan 24, Ronnie 14, Roshan 14) bt MEG 53 (Sridhar 20, Amal 11) (Ht: 30-25).

‘C’ division: Southern Blues 42 (Naveen 22, Sudhir 12) bt NGV BC 36 (Rafeal 14) (Ht: 16-12).
