Third seed Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan thrashed sixth seed Vijayant Malik 6-0, 6-3 and seventh seed N. Vijay Sundar Prashanth had an easy 6-4, 6-3 win over Frenchman Tak Khunn Wang in the quarterfinals of the TVS-ITF men’s Futures tournament at the Union Club here on Friday.

Jeevan hardly gave Malik a chance, breaking him in his very first service game of the first set. Jeevan’s looping balls were difficult for Malik to handle, and the sixth seed kept burying his forehands into the net.

Jeevan, on the other hand, kept firing winners off the flanks. Breaks in the first, third and fifth games saw Jeevan blanking Malik in the first set.

In the second, a couple of perfect lobs saw Jeevan break Malik in the very first game again.

Malik, however, changed tack and came in a lot more. He even had four breakpoints in the second game, but squandered all of them. Down 0-2, Malik got on the board by managing his first hold of the match. In fact, he went on to hold his next three service games. But, when serving to stay in the match at 5-3, Malik was broken again, and Jeevan romped home an easy winner.

Vijay Sundar broke Wang in the third game, helped by a couple of forehand errors from the Frenchman. That sole break proved decisive as the Indian wrapped up the first set.

The second set went on serve till the fourth game. In the fifth, Wang dumped an attempted overhead into the net to yield a breakpoint, and then hit a forehand long to drop serve and give Vijay Sundar a 3-2 lead.

The Indian pressed on and broke Wang again in the ninth game to close out the match.

V.M. Ranjeet and his Brazilian partner Caio Silva made the doubles final, with a tight 6-2, 3-6, 13-11 win over Ramkumar Ramanathan and Ashwin Vijayaraghavan.
