GUWAHATI: The Uttar Pradesh bowlers made full use of the low and slow pitch to skittle out Assam for 149 on the second day of their Ranji Trophy quarterfinal at the Maligaon Stadium here on Friday.
Uttar Pradesh, which gained a 64-run lead, was 25 for no loss in its second essay.
Apart from the lack of application and patience to graft, Assam missed its most dependable batsman Dheeraj Jadhav, who was hit on the leg while fielding on the first day.
Skipper Amol Mazumdar took on the role of anchor while scoring a painstaking 53 (178m, 132b, 3x4).
However, Assam lost wickets at regular intervals at the other end. When Abu Ahmed (24 not out, 63m, 37b, 4x4) showed the inclination to hang around, Mazumdar was run out going for a non-existent run after getting his 56th half-century in his 151st Ranji match.
The top four Uttar Pradesh bowlers shared the spoils with two wickets apiece.
