CHENNAI: Priyamvada Karmcheti of Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh played out a draw against Ivana Furtado to win girls title, with a round to spare, in the in the National under-11 chess championship here on Wednesday.

The Class V student won the first nine games in a row and required a draw with black pieces to win her maiden National title. She completed the mission when defending champion Furtado of Goa offered her a draw.

Chandreyee (WB), Shiny Das (Tri), Tejaswini Sagar (Mah), C.H. Meghna (Ker), Riya Savant (Goa) and Furtado are in second place with 7.5 points, two points behind Priyamvada.

Aravindh in lead

Madurai's Aravindh Chithambaram of Madurai has snatched a significant one point lead after defeating the other joint leader Hetul Shah of Ahmedabad with the white pieces.

Aravindh, with nine points from ten games, looks set to win the title .

The second spot is shared by Hetul, Harshal Shahi (Del) and Arjun Bharat (Kar) with eight points. The tie-break score of all these three players are higher than Aravindh.
