New Delhi: Vikas Krishnan (60kg) and Naveen Kumar (81kg) fetched gold medals, while three others settled for silver as the Indian boxing team finished runner-up at the Asian youth boxing championships in Teheran.
Devendro (48kg), Venkat Giddi Nagarjun (57kg) and Sumit Sangwan (75kg) lost their final bouts to finish second on the podium. Having got four bronze medals earlier, the Indian team posted a healthy tally of 28 points to finish second behind Kazakhstan (34).
Devendro was outpunched 0-5 by Masoud Rigi of Iran. The disappointment continued when Nagarjun went down 2-10 to Yerkin Duisenbayev of Kazakhstan. But Vikas brought the cheers back to the Indian camp defeating Phonwirat Patiyhangkho of Thailand 4-0.
Sumit lost to China's Yihhang Wen 0-4, but Naveen ensured that India ended the day on a high as he edged past Aolih Zhang of China 4-2. — PTI
