NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President, Suresh Kalmadi, said on Wednesday that the Olympic torch relay was to be held here as scheduled on April 17.
“I met the Chinese Ambassador only yesterday and we have worked out all the modalities regarding the torch relay,” Mr. Kalmadi said. He was reacting to reports that China was concerned about the security arrangements for the relay and could cancel the Indian leg, in view of the recent demonstrations by Tibetan protestors.
Mr. Kalmadi said that security aspects had been discussed and governmental agencies were fully behind the arrangements being made for the event. — Special Correspondent
