Three years after the deadly Cabinda machine gun attack, Togo was celebrating a historic feat at the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday by reaching the quarterfinals for the first time.
The 2013 first round drew to a close with Togo deservedly holding former champion Tunisia to a 1-1 draw in Nelspruit.
That was sufficient to see the little west African nation sneak past the eliminated Carthage Eagles and into the last eight.
The results: Group D: At Rustenburg: Algeria 2 (Feghouli 64-pen, Soudani 70) drew with Ivory Coast 2 (Drogba 77, Bony 80).
At Nelspruit: Togo 1 (Gakpe 13) drew with Tunisia 1 (Mouelhi 30-pen). — AFP
