TNTA president M.A. Alagappan, in his condolence message, described ‘P.L.’ (as he was affectionately known) as “a gentleman, an ardent tennis lover and one of the most regular players at Egmore since the 50s’. His contribution to the growth of TNTA as office-bearer and organising of various tournaments and coaches workshops in the 70s’ and 80s’ is to be appreciated. He was the non-playing captain of the Indian Davis Cup team which reached the final in 1987.

“The team consisted of Vijay Amritraj, Anand Amritraj, Ramesh Krishnan and S. Vasudevan, all of whom hailed from Chennai. It was also during his tenure as secretary of AITA that the first ever ITF under-18 event was conducted in Chennai.
