NEW DELHI: Indian Air Force (IAF) struck twice in the dying minutes to record a stunning 2-1 victory against Border Security Force (BSF) in a Group ‘A’ match of the 5th Lt. Governor’s invitational DDA football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Saturday.

Trailing by one goal, the IAF did not look like pulling off a win till W.P. Singh banked on a corner to head home the equaliser in the 88th minute.

This charged up the IAF forwards who attacked with more purpose. In the injury time, W.P. Singh was again in the focus as he sent in a pass into the box and the ever-alert Manish Negi tapped it in to give his side a winning start.

Earlier, BSF went 1-0 up when Gurpreet Kumar (29th minute) found the target off a well-coordinated move on the left flank.

IAF’s Anil Kumar was adjudged the man of the match for his show under the bar.

Once he rushed out to thwart an attempt by the pouncing rival forwards and on another occasion he palmed away a well-directed shot from Amanpreet Singh.

For BSF, defender Kulwinder Singh and midfielder P.B. Ekka did a good job.

In the inaugural match, J & K Bank pipped Simla Youngs 1-0. Badru Ibrahim scored the all-important goal in the 23rd minute.

In Group ‘B’ matches to be played on Sunday, Indian National Football Club will meet Moonlight Club while Amity United will take on Punjab Police.
