Olympian Sumit Sangwan (81kg), National champions Vikash Malik (60kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg) booked their berths in the quarterfinals of the World boxing championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on Tuesday.
With Shiva Thapa (56kg) and Manoj Kumar (64kg) having already reached the last eight, five Indians have made it to the World championship quarterfinals for the first time.
Sangwan outsmarted eighth-seeded Siarhei Novikau of Belarus 3-0 (30-27, 30-27, 30-27). The 20-year-old will next meet top seed Adilbek Niyazymbetov of Kazakhstan.
Malik defeated fifth seed Miklos Varga from Hungary 3-0 (30-27, 29-28, 29-28). He will take on Robson Conceicao of Brazil in the next round.
Satish beat Belarusian Yan Sudzilouski 3-0 (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). The 24-year-old will face local favourite Ivan Dychko.
